Baraga Area Schools will receive sealed bids in the District Office, 210 Lyons Street, Baraga, Michigan 49908, until 3:00 pm (EST-time), July 21, 2010, for Mechanical HVAC System Replacement for Pelkie Elementary School. The Project includes, but is not limited to, demolition of the existing HVAC system, installation of new high efficiency boilers, heat pumps, baseboard heating, direct digital HVAC controls, electrical service upgrade to 3-phase power, and all cutting, patching and finishes to install the new system. The Work is to be substantially complete and system fully operational before October 1, 2010. Indian preference is reserved. The District intends award of a single General Contract for the Work described in the Documents prepared by Apollo Engineering.

A pre-bid meeting will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Pelkie Elementary School, 15211 Pelkie Road, Pelkie, Michigan 49958. All interested bidders are encouraged to attend as the Engineer and Owner will cover project scope and bidding requirements. Bidding documents are available from the Engineer electronically for free or in paper form for a deposit of $50 per set, make checks payable to Baraga Area Schools. Bids will be accepted by the District on or before the bid due date and time by mail or hand delivery. Late bids will not be accepted and will be returned to the bidder unopened. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud by the board or board designee five (5) minutes after the bids are received, the public is welcome to attend.

The bid shall be accompanied by a sworn and notarized statement, disclosing any familial relationship that exists between the owner or any employee of the bidder and any member of the school board of directors or school superintendent. The board shall not accept a bid that does not include this sworn and notarized disclosure statement.

Each bid shall be accompanied by a bid security in the form of a Bid Bond, Bank Certified Check or Money Order in the amount of not less than five percent (5%) of the total bid amount conditioned to secure Baraga Area Schools from loss or damage by reason of the withdrawl of the bid or by the failure of the bidder to enter a contract for performance, if the bid is accepted by the board.

The District intends to award a Contract within 30 days and reserves the right to accept, reject or modify the terms of any or all bid proposals, to accept other than low bid and to waive and/or permit errors, informalities or irregularities in proposals that the District considers to be in their best interest.
