This is my fifth year working in the district as an At-Risk School Counselor. I attended Central Michigan University where I received a BA in Psychology and an MA in Professional and School Counseling. Some of the services I provide include social/emotional classroom lessons, school-wide positive behavior supports, individual and group counseling focused on school success, standardized testing support, and behavior interventions and supports. I am also a member of the Multi Tiered System Supports Leadership Team and the Literacy Committee. When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends!

I am in my fifteenth year with the Baraga Area Schools. I have taught first, fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grades. I am currently in my fourth year as the K-12 principal. I have two wonderful children; Landon is 6 and Avery is 4. In my free time, I enjoy taking the kids to deer camp and to the family cottage. We enjoy the fishing and hunting that both places have. I have coached football, basketball, and track for Baraga.

I am a 1988 graduate of Chetek High School in Chetek, Wisconsin.  I received my bachelors degree in elementary education with  a minor in early childhood education. I earned my masters degree from Marygrove College.  Since that time, I have taken many classes and training sessions focusing on literacy.  I am a member of  the Baraga County Task Force, Baraga Educational Support Team (BEST), Literacy Leaders Network, Multi Tiered Systems of Support Team (MTSS), Literacy Committee, and the Learn to Read Committee through the ISD.  I volunteer for youth and education programs at our church in Chassell.

My husband Jeff and I were married in 1996.  We live in Chassell.  We have twin fourteen year olds, Addi and Tyson.  We thoroughly enjoy all that they are involved in.   In my spare time, I love to be by the water or walking in the woods.  I also enjoy crafts of many kinds.  As a family, we enjoy boating and camping.

My role as a Title I teacher primarily involves designing and/or  implementing interventions  in the area of reading.  This will be year 21 for me in Baraga.  Prior to teaching in Baraga, I taught for four years for the School District of Oconto Falls.

I grew up in L’Anse and graduated from L’Anse High School.  I attended Northern Michigan University and graduated with a bachelor degree in elementary education in 1989.  I began my teaching career teaching 6th grade at Sacred Heart School in L’Anse before moving over to Baraga.  This will be my 29th year teaching in Baraga Schools. I spent 18 years as Lead Teacher at the Pelkie Elementary School.  Throughout my years at Baraga I have taught; Developmental Kindergarten, Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade.  I have enjoyed every grade level and love being a part of the early years of learning for students. This year I will be teaching Transitional Kindergarten.

I am married and have two grown children, Jake and Chase.  My husband Bob and I live in L’Anse with our two Labrador Retrievers, Oz and Lucy.  When not in school I enjoy gardening, kayaking, reading, and spending time with my family.

Hi I am Desiree Lauritsen, the kids call me Mrs. L! I received my bachelors in elementary education  from University of Phoenix in 2012. I then received my Masters in Reading from Concordia University in 2017. I have been working at the Baraga Area Schools, teaching 2nd grade since 2014. I also teach evening classes at the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College.

I am married (Eric) and have 5 children ( Daniel, Lynn, Erica-Joy, Jadyn, and Braxton). They keep me very busy and in my spare time I enjoy working on my farm in Pelkie.

In 2nd grade we really focus on gaining independence! We also really focus on mastering reading! Our classroom is different from the traditional classroom with flexible seating and a lot of child lead learning and experiences!

Hi there, my name is Christine Scroggs, better known to students as Mrs. Scroggs. I have lived in the Baraga Area my entire life and am a proud 2013 Baraga High graduate. After high school, I attended Northern Michigan University where I obtained my bachelors of arts in elementary education with an emphasis on language arts and science. Currently, I live in Baraga with my husband, Brandon. 
 
I am excited for my first year at Baraga as a first grade teacher. Prior to this year, I spent one year teaching kindergarten for the L'Anse school district. I will also be the K-2 tutor for Baraga's Great Exploration program this school year. When I am not at school, I enjoy cooking and spending time in the outdoors with my family. Adventure awaits in 1st grade!

I received my bachelor's degree from Northern Michigan University in 1987, and have been teaching in Baraga since 1988, spending the first 10 years at the Pelkie School.  While I currently teach 4th grade, I have also taught grades 3, 5, & 6.
My passions include being active outdoors in all seasons, sewing, quilting, beading, and anything related to my Finnish heritage.

I was born in L'Anse, Michigan, but grew up in Marquette.  I attended Marquette Public Schools and graduated in 1985.  I attended and then graduated from NMU with a BS in Elementary Education and a MAE in Learning Disabilities.
I live in L'Anse Township with my husband Kurt, and 2 sons, Brennan and Bryce. We have 2 dogs, 2 cats and some fish.   I love spending time with my family and friends at camp on Huron Bay and in Florida.  I enjoy traveling, cooking, concerts, reading, and walking my dogs.
I began teaching in 1994 at the Sacred Heart School in L'Anse (3yrs.) and then at the Arvon Township School in Skanee (3yrs.).  In the fall of 2000,  I began teaching in the Elementary Resource Room here at Baraga .  I am currently teaching in the Middle School Resource Room and really enjoy it!

I am a native, born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.  I received my Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary Education with Minors in History and Sociology from Lake Superior State University in May of 2003.

I enrolled at Northern Michigan University during the Fall Semester of 2004 and received a Masters of Arts in Education with a Major in Learning Disabilities in May of 2007.

I received in Endorsement in Early Childhood Education from Lake Superior State University during in 2009.

My children, Bruce Jr. and Courtney, reside in Baraga and my oldest son, Nathan, lives in Sault Ste. Marie, MI.

This is my 15th year of teaching, I have primarily taught at the Pre K-5th Grade Levels. I have enjoyed working in the field of Special Education teaching Pre-K – 12th Grade as well as working as a Moderately Cognitively Impaired Teacher for ages 14-26.

This is my 2nd Year Teaching at the Baraga Area Schools as a High School Special Education Teacher Grades 9th-12th.  I am very excited to be given the opportunity to work within the Baraga Area Schools and look forward to the challenge of working with the High School Students at Baraga Area Schools.

Hi, my name is Deb Deshambo and I am the current ELA teacher for grades 6-8.  I have been teaching at Baraga Area Schools for over 20 years and have also taught in the LD classroom and third grade. I also tutor after school and work many of the home basketball games. I received my Bachelor's degree(Elementary Education) and my Master's degree(Learning Disabilities) from Northern Michigan University.

I live in Ontonagon with my husband and dog. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and dog and being outdoors.

I am a 1990 graduate of Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. I began working for the Baraga Schools in 1996 and have taught here each year since, with the exception of the 2001-02 school year in which I taught for the Gwinn Schools.

  Through my career at Baraga I have been the At-Risk Monitor, Title 1 Teacher, 4th and 5th grade all subjects teacher, Elementary Gym Teacher, and am currently the 6th grade Math, Science, and Study Skills Teacher.

I grew up in Riverview, MI (south of Detroit).  I graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2012 with a math major and economics minor.  I am married with a daughter, Savannah.  In my free time, I enjoy baking, reading, and camping.  We like to get out and explore different parts of the Upper Peninsula during the summer.

This is my sixth year teaching at Baraga.  I teach 7th and 8th grade science.  I also have the roles of lead teacher and technology coordinator.  I graduated from Western Michigan University with a bachelor's degree in secondary education with a biology major and group science minor.  Prior to working at Baraga, I taught science for four years in North Carolina and also worked at the University of North Carolina for a couple years in a biochemistry lab.

Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my family, fishing, and anything active outdoors.

I am a 2004 high school graduate of Baraga Area Schools. I received my bachelor of science in education degree from Central Michigan University with  a major in visual arts. I have been working at the Baraga Area Schools since 2009 and teaching here since 2012.

I am married and have two daughters, Krimson and Hadley. In my free time I enjoy kayaking, camping, listening to music, and of course making art (drawing/graphite is my personal favorite)!

I teach elementary art classes, studio middle school art classes  and high school art classes. Our high school art classes include a studio art class that deals with all types of media. An advanced art class for seniors who meet pre requisite criteria in which they develop a personal style and collection of art. And a digital art class where students can learn about photoshop, drawing tablets, 3D printing, animation, graphic design and product design.

I am a 1987 graduate of Houghton High School. Following graduation, I played Junior Hockey for two years before attending college. I received my bachelors degree in Physical Education from the University of Wisconsin - Superior.  I served as the Athletic Director for Baraga for 17 years.    I served on the UP Athletic Committee for several years.  I have also coached junior high football, varsity football, varsity track, golf, and taught drivers ed for a number of years.

I live in Chassell with my wife Monica and children Addi and Tyson.  I enjoy many kinds of projects, boating, camping, and spending time with both my immediate and extended family.  I am from a  family of thirteen kids and most still live in this area.  In addition to teaching, I own a canvas repair business.

I teach middle school and high school PE.  The classes include weight training, team games, and general PE.  This will be my 21st year in Baraga.  Prior to coming here, I taught for one year in Crivitz, Wisconsin.

This is my eighth year teaching at Baraga Area Schools. However, this is my 25th year of teaching, with 17 years teaching at another school district--where I also ran the school printshop.

I currently teach:
  • Middle school computer/technology classes to grades 6-7-8.
  • Accounting I and Personal Finance for high school students, primarily seniors.
  • Odyssey classes for high school students. These online courses allow student a variety of classes that may not be offered, as well as an opportunity for students to recover credits.

I have lived in L'Anse for the majority of my life and earned my BS degree from Northern Michigan University. I am also vocationally certified.

I enjoy spending time with my sons, family, and friends. You may find me boating or enjoying the outdoors--especially our beautiful Upper Peninsula.

After graduating from Oakland University with a bachelor of arts in English, I pursued a teaching certification from Saginaw Valley State University in the subjects of English and Spanish. Once I was finished with school, I moved to the Upper Peninsula and completely fell in love with the area. I have been teaching at Baraga Area Schools since 2014.
I currently teach 9th and 10th grade English as well as all of the Spanish classes at Baraga. In English, we focus on a variety of literature, reading comprehension strategies, and communication and writing skills that students can use in the future. In Spanish, students are able to learn not only the language, but about the cultures of Spanish speaking countries all over the world. All of these classes are a great way to gain confidence in public speaking and writing.
Outside of school, have a wonderful husband and 3 adorable sons (Finley, and twins August and Isaac). I love literature, fishing, cooking and camping. I sell Mary Kay and am also a field placement coordinator for International Cultural Exchange Services (ICES) where I help foreign exchange students to find host families in our area.

I've lived in Baraga County for most of my life. I graduated from L'Anse in 2004, and then earned my degree from Northern Michigan University in 2009. I taught in L'Anse for four years, and started teaching in Baraga in 2013.

I've been married since 2007; we have two children, Mathew and Annika, who attend Baraga. In my free time I travel, camp, kayak, cook, read, ski, and snowshoe. I am also an amateur photographer.
Currently, I teach English 11, English 12, Civics, Creative Writing, and Writing Lab.
