Today, November, 11, 2022 we were honored to celebrate Veteran's Day with an assembly to honor all that are serving and have served. Students presented, sang, read poems and stories, watched a slideshow of support, and listened to Mr. Brian Irizarry, our featured speaker, and each veteran to learn about the importance of service, discipline, and courage. This annual assembly was special in every way.

Dear Baraga Families, This letter is to inform you of a serious issue that was brought to our district’s attention earlier today. On Friday, November 4, 2022, Baraga Area Schools were alerted by the Baraga Police Department that a verbal threat of violence was reported to them today. They are continuing to actively investigate the information provided to them and will continue to keep district staff informed of any new developments. At no time today was there any immediate danger to any student or staff member. Law enforcement personnel have been present in the building. The procedures we have in place ensured little disruption to other students in the building. We understand situations such as this are concerning to parents, students, and the greater community. We want you to be aware that we are taking steps to ensure a safe dismissal, including continued law enforcement involvement. The safety of our students, staff, and community is our highest priority.

MASB Strategic Planning Public Input Meetings October 17, 2022 Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s), The Board of Education and the Administration is launching a new initiative to guide Baraga Area Schools through a Three- to Five-Year Strategic Plan. The purpose of this initiative is to help develop new goals and strategies for continuing to offer an excellent education for our students, while using scarce public education resources in the most effective and efficient way. The strategic planning process is designed to produce approximately five goals to be accomplished over a three- to five-year period. The plan uses data—along with the feedback of staff, students and community members—to help create a shared vision for the future that will help make the district an even better place for our students. Your ideas about the strengths of Baraga Area Schools are very important, as well as your opinions concerning where there is opportunity for removing any barriers to implementation and other input. Therefore, you are invited to provide input in either of the scheduled face-to-face sessions or electronically. All input must be received by October 26th. In person sessions are on the following dates in the high school library: October 18th from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. October 25th from 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. The online survey can be completed by going to the following website: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BaragaSP2022 Sincerely, Lori Wisniewski Superintendent Sarah Smith Board President
