Vikings, We all took some time to send some messages to you while we can't be in the school building. Seniors, we didn't forget about you so make sure to watch until the end. Make sure everyone is checking their school email, the website, and teacher pages for the most updated learning information. Email your teachers if you aren't sure where to go to find this information. #VikingStrong https://youtu.be/DHfsW67xIrs

As we all do our best to stay safe during this difficult time, remember our medical personnel as they continue working. Experiencing a lack of PPE such as medical masks, Bay Ambulance reached out to us here at the school for assistance. Our STEM class this year has been learning to design and print objects with our 3D printers, so here is an example of the real world problems we can help solve with STEM and ingenuity. This is a 3D printed mask for medical personnel or for personal use that uses a small 4 cm x 4 cm filter material. Filters can be cut out of surgical masks or filter sheets. Our plan is to supply as many of these 3D printed masks as possible for our local medical workers and school personnel. Anyone who is interested in donating or buying spools of PLA plastic to help out in this time of need can contact Richard Sarau at the school (906-353-6664).

Guess what Baraga students? We miss you. A lot. So we want to plan a car parade around the neighborhood to wave and say hi. If you would like to wave back at your favorite staff member just look at the map and meet us outside. If you are not on our route and still want to see us we have a parking area planned for you! The car parade will start at the school at 5pm this Monday, April 6th. This will be so exciting but we want to make sure we are all practicing social distancing and being safe during this event. Stay in your cars if you drive and just wave from the window. Stay in your yards if we pass your house and be sure to stand at least 6 feet from people. See you Monday! #VikingStrong

Saykkly’s Egg Orders Canceled
UPDATE: APRIL 2, 2020 Governor Whitmer has announced today that all Michigan K-12 schools will be closed for the remainder of the year. We know this will cause additional stress on an already stressful situation but our Governor feels this is the best direction to keep families and the community safe. It was announced that all seniors will graduate and all students showing adequate progress prior to the closure will move onto the next grade. State testing has been canceled for the 2019-2020 school year. We will continue supplemental learning for the remainder of the year. All of these resources and updates can be found on our website or app but our staff is still in the development stages of the learning plans for the school and more information will be made available as things are finalized. Please bear with us as we sort through this ever changing information and be assured that we realize there are multiple barriers to this type of learning and we are working hard to meet the various needs of our students.

The “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order that went into place this morning means that school will be closed for at least three more weeks starting today, March 24th. As of right now we are continuing to provide meal pick-up. Information on how you can participate in the food program can be found in our news article or on our Instagram and Facebook pages. We will continue to keep you informed on what is happening but this is uncharted territory for us all and because things are changing at such a fast pace we currently have more questions than answers. We are awaiting further guidance from the state on many things, such as online learning. For right now, teachers are sharing resources and lessons with students on various platforms of their choosing. We are working on getting a resource together that gives parents and guardians all of this information in one place. Please be on the lookout for something on our webpage. We appreciate your patience as we continue to sort through the details of this ever-changing event. Stay home, stay healthy. We are Viking Strong and will get through this together.

In effect tonight, Govenor Whitmer has ordered all non-critical businesses to temporarily close. This order will be in place for the next three weeks and will hopefully decrease the spread of the coronavirus. Grocery stores, gas stations, and banks are among the businesses that will be staying open. Details can be found here. We will continue serving grab-and-go food unless we get different instructions from the state. Stay home. Stay healthy. https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499-522625--,00.html
